Weaponry Care

Swords

Each piece that leaves our workshop is treated with a special, all natural, non-toxic, beeswax based sword salve. Upon receiving your sparring weapon, use a soft cloth to buff the wax into the wood and joinery.

A few simple precautions will protect both your sword and warranty:

  • Keep your weapon well waxed to help protect the finish and joinery. You should wax and buff your weapon if it is used frequently, exposed to damp conditions, or excessively dry (such as when it has been stored for an extended period of time) Sword salve products are available for purchase on our website and are invaluable for maintaining your sword.
  • Store your weapon away from direct heat sources which can cause it to become brittle(such as next to a heater or in a hot car).
  • It is best to keep longer weapons hung in a vertical position to prevent the wood from warping. Avoid leaning them against walls etc.
  • Never strike your weapon against anything harder than another wooden weapon. If using a fight pell it must be padded to ensure your warranty.
  • Dents will form on a well-used sword, but these are to be regarded as normal battle damage. However, regular waxing will keep the striking edge resilient in battle.

A NOTE ABOUT SPARRING AND SWORD PLAY:

A sword fight is an honorable exchange between opponents, not swords. Smashing your weaponry together as hard as possible is not sparring, but sword misuse. This abuse will void your warranty.

Crossbows

A few simple precautions will protect both your crossbow and warranty:

  • NEVER EVER EVER!! DRY FIRE YOUR CROSSBOW. This means to never load and fire your crossbow without a bolt loaded in the chamber to take the pressure of the fire. This could fracture your bow blades and ruin your string, not to mention put undue wear and tear on the stock and inner workings of your crossbow.
  • Your crossbow will come waxed. It is a good idea to take a soft cloth or towel and buff the wax into the wood.
  • To keep your bow in good working order it is important to keep the stock, nut, and trigger waxed with sword salve if it appears to be drying out. Sword salve products can be purchased in our shoppe.
  • To keep your bow strings from fraying and fuzzing up run a bit of sword salve along the string.
  • Remember, when firing your crossbow, keep your fingers below the strings to avoid the snap of the strings as they are released.
